Renate Dollinger was born in Germany and was part of the kindertransport to London as a young child. She attended art school in London and participated in the war effort as an interpreter. In 1947 she joined her sister in the USA, and lived most of her life until recently in Oakland. Dollinger’s paintings are relics of a past life and piece of history. She began painting again after the birth of her fourth child and immediately began painting Jewish life in the Shtetl. She has an identifiable style that is uniquely American yet inspired by pre war Europe. Dollinger now resides in Washington.
